Abstract
The mandatory clinical practice or internship program was included in the regular curriculum with 10 credit since 1991 school year. Therefore, new clinical practice education will be initiated form spring semter of 1993 for 8 weeks for each student of medical technology. The outcome is the result of the extension of school years from previous 2 years to 3 years starting from 1991.
Since the credit-related clinical practice for medical technology student was added to the curriculum as a new teaching program, many problems involved with its processing have been encountered to prepare before sending them out to hospital labortories.
Some major problems among many complicated ones are: 1) capacity problem of laboratory facillities to accomodate students who should comply was the curriculum requirement. Compared to the number of students, laboratory facilities are too small in number. 2) assignment of clinical practice education coordinator in the labortory is currenty almost infeasible due to budget problem and his or her qualification. It is common practice that education coordinator is an essential condition in accreditation of teaching facillities for the related students. However, it is probable that sencor mediated technologists or superior of the laboratory should lake the responsibility in place of the coordinator for the time being, of course this should be a temporary alternative. There should be a fixed coordinator in the laboratory who is totally eligible to handle the internship program.
10 credits are just about the half of total credits established in a semester. Consequently, it is very natural to pay adequat amount of money to the laboratory facilities in return of benefit obtained through the clinical laboratory practice. To calculate the adequate amount of money, it is necessary to figure out the budget of tuition and allocated school laboratory expenses.
These problems should be discussed bilaterally between representives of teaching hospitals and colleges, and be prepared in written document all the conditions that are agreed apon.
